Therese Ramstedt and Zandile Darko received an artistic residency grant at Kampnagel as part of the NORDWIND Festival 2024 and developed their project BE MY GUEST during this time, which they presented to a larger audience on 14 December as part of a showing. The NORDWIND residency programme focused on the search for home, identity and identity overlaps. Therese Ramstedt and Zandile Darko – both artists and mothers of young children – explored questions of this dual identity and the associated feelings of home and belonging. 

With their showing, they invited the audience into a space that blurred the boundaries between performance and living space, public and private. Serving the audience waffles and beguiling them with their homely scent, they spoke, recited and narrated, sharing their thoughts with the audience. Present throughout: Therese's toddler, who interfered and, as a crawling commentator, was protagonist, antagonist, co-player and participant, and the intrusion of the real into art all in one.

What struck me was the atmosphere that the two artists created with their dramaturgy of the showing: while the mood in the room was characterised by the utmost gentleness, openness and attentiveness, the showing proceeded with the highest concentration and rigour – attention focused, structure protected, roles distributed. This resulted in a performative mirroring of the topics accompanying the spoken texts – and created a deep understanding of the mindset, challenges and conditions for success of the work of both protagonists. The two women appear so familiar in their joint work that the "home" they have created together seems real, a temporary chosen family based on trust and solidarity, and at the same time a congenial artistic connection with a common goal – a promising basis for future collaboration, which I personally look forward to with excitement!

Therese Ramstedt und Zandile Darko hatten im Rahmen des NORDWIND-Festivals 2024 auf Kampnagel ein künstlerisches Residenzstipendium auf Kampnagel und entwickelten während dieser Zeit ihr Projekt BE MY GUEST, das sie am 14.12. im Rahmen eines Showings einem größeren Publikum präsentierten. Das NORDWIND-Residenzprogramm stellte die Suche nach Heimat, Identität bzw. Identitätsüberschreibungen in den Mittelpunkt – Therese Ramstedt und Zandile Darko – beide Künstler*innen und Mütter kleiner Kinder – widmeten sich entlang des Themas den Fragen dieser doppelten Identität und dem damit verbundenen Gefühl von Zuhause und Heimat.

Mit ihrem Showing luden sie das Publikum in einen Raum ein, der die Grenzen zwischen Aufführungs- und Wohnraum, öffentlich und privat verschwimmen ließ. Das Publikum mit Waffeln bewirtend und mit deren heimeligem Duft betörend sprachen, rezitierten und erzählten sie und teilten mit dem Publikum ihre Gedanken. Die ganze Zeit mit dabei: Thereses Kleinkind, das sich einmischte und als krabbelnder Kommentar Protagonist*in, Antagonist*in, Mitspieler*in und Teilnehmer*in und der Einbruch des Realen in der Kunst in einem war.

Bemerkenswert war für mich die Atmosphäre, die die beiden Künstler*innen mit ihrer Dramaturgie des Showings schufen: während größte Sanftheit, Offenheit, Aufmerksamkeit und Zugewandtheit die Stimmung im Raum prägten, verlief das Showing mit höchster Konzentration und Stringenz – die Aufmerksamkeit fokussiert, die Struktur geschützt, die Rollen verteilt. So entstand die gesprochenen Texte begleitend eine performative Entsprechung der verhandelten Themen – und schufen ein tiefes Verständnis für Mindset, Herausforderungen und Gelingensbedingungen der Arbeit der beiden Protagonist*innen. Die beiden Frauen wirken in ihrem gemeinsamen Tun so vertraut, dass das geschaffene »Zuhause« real erscheint, eine temporäre Wahlfamilie, basierend auf Vertrauen und Solidarität, und gleichzeitig eine kongenialie künstlerische Verbindung mit gemeinsamem Ziel – eine vielversprechende Basis für zukünftige Zusammenarbeit, der ich persönlich gespannt entgegenblicke!
